The Outsiders

Have you ever felt like a third wheel? Life on the outside of the “in” crowd can make it difficult to fit in, to feel “at home.” The Gospel of Luke chronicles Jesus’ ministry with those on the so-called “outside.” What can we learn from these stories and Jesus’ call to turn the inside out and the outside in?

July 10: The Lonely — Luke 7:11-17

July 17: The Traveler — Luke 10:1-11, 16-20

Mallory’s Introduction to the Congregation–April 10, 2016

On Sunday, April 10, 2016, Mallory Ringenbach was introduced to the congregation as our new Youth Ministry Coordinator. This audio file includes the end of the sermon, introducing Mallory, and her commissioning.

Mallory

Meet our new Youth Ministries Coordinator, Mallory Ringenbach

MalloryMallory attended Brevard College in Western North Carolina where she received her B.A. in Elementary Education.  Through her high school and college years, she has gained experience working and connecting with children of all ages through theatre, after school programs and childcare, volunteer opportunities, and summer camp programs. Mallory found her niche in the United Methodist Church at an early age, as a participant in weekly worship, and as an enthusiastic member of her home youth group. She hopes to help the young people of Christ Crossman navigate through the many blessings and opportunities God has to offer, and establish an enduring relationship with God and each other. “We can never be hopeless, because we can never been irreparably broken. We think that we are invincible because we are.”

Prayer for General Conference

While prayer is needed for more than one hour, Christ Crossman is scheduled to pray for General Conference from 8 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, April 10.

Beginning May 10, 2016, 864 delegates (432 clergy, 432 lay) from around the world will gather in Portland, Oregon, to collectively discern the direction of The United Methodist Church. This is the only body which speaks officially for the UMC.

Here is a long, but reflective article on what is facing not only our delegates but also our entire denomination: Wonder, Love, and Praise: Sharing a Vision of the Church

A Possible Prayer

Oh Lord, we come to offer our praise and thanksgiving for your presence and gifts, your mercy and grace. We come to ask for strength and courage as we pray for our General Conference, for the delegates and for your United Methodist Church. We pray Lord, hold your delegates in the palm of your hand. Give them wisdom, compassion and understanding and a willingness to make difficult and necessary decisions to strengthen and grow your church as we walk this journey together. We acknowledge Lord that we are a diverse people, of different cultures, understandings, biases, beliefs and desires. Instill in us a sense of the Body of Christ, that we may in our differences be one Body of Christ. Where there is division, lead us to compromise and unity and maintain our focus on your mission that you have for us in the world, to make disciples in relationship with you.

“Give all delegates a love for your church – a desire not only to serve you as we now can but also a determination to bring unity to divided churches, that the world may more readily receive the Gospel and find in our manner of living it out the way of peace and unity. Through Christ who is the head of the body, the church. Amen.
